May is Lupus Awareness Month an you can take action in the fight against this cruel and mysterious disease. Lupus is an autoimmune illness that strikes without warning, has unpredictable, sometimes fatal effects, lasts a lifetime, and has no known cause and no known cure. It is pervasive and affects an estimated 1.5 million people in the United States. Despite its prevalence, nearly two thirds of the public know little or nothing about it. Learn what you can do to help and take action by visiting lupus.org/awareness. Take part in local activities hosted by the Lone Star Chapter, we have received 48 Mayoral Proclamations, attend the Annual Rally for Lupus Eductional Conference and the Lupus and The Kidneys Educational Program, organize a Put On Purple day, join the Walk to End Lupus Now, and so much more.

POP: Put On Purple for Lupus Awareness Month

LAM Shareable 1. Wear purple proudly on Friday, May 20 and tell people why!
2. Ask you friends, family, coworkers and employer to Put On Purple on May 20 to help raise awareness of lupus and support those with the disease
3. Consider organizing office-wide or company-wide participation
4. Take pictures of your participation and post them using the hashtag #PutOnPurple and #LupusLoneStar through Facebook or Twitter, along with details about how you Put on Purple for lupus awareness

Lupus Advocate Begins Awareness Campaign

Teresa Nichols

Teresa Nichols is a lupus patient who has raised over $50,000 in support of the Lupus Foundation of America, Lone Star Chapter. In just three years, this dedicated Lubbock resident has shown her commitment to her community by bringing awareness to lupus by most of the time, walking door to door to encourage donations toward her fundraising efforts for the annual Walk to End Lupus Now event that takes place at Buddy Holly Recreation Center.

The goal of the KNOW LUPUS campaign is to bring greater awareness of lupus and raise funds for lupus research by engaging the support from corporations, media, celebrities and community partners. It is estimated that two-thirds of people know little or nothing about lupus beyond the name.

Everyone needs to KNOW LUPUS, to create a future with NO LUPUS.

A doctor may use the phrase "borderline lupus" when symptoms or blood test results  suggest lupus, but there is not enough information for a definite diagnosis. This occurs commonly because some of the blood tests used to evaluate lupus, such as the anti-nuclear antibody (ANA)...  Learn more.
