These leaders will continue to nurture existing support groups, and add 3 new ones --Indy West, Indy South, and Evansville. This group also includes our two new, ONLINE support group facilitators! LFA, Indiana Chapter's Annual Giving Campaign now through December 31st

purple_bauble_background.jpg

It's that time of year. The time of year where we ask you --our members and our friends --to give generously to LFA, Indiana Chapter, to help us continue to provide patient and caregiver support, education, and research dollars to find a cure for this terrible disease.

With two giving options (a one-time annual gift, or smaller monthly gifts throughout the year), it's easier than ever to donate. Most importantly, now through December 31st, our Board will match your donation dollar for dollar. Please don't wait! LFA, IN Chapter depends on your generosity to continue to provide programs and services for Hoosiers who suffer from lupus, so please, DONATE NOW, and have your donation doubled.

Monthly Support Groups

We hope you'll join us at one of our support group meetings this month! The philosophy of our support groups is to provide a warm and caring environment where people with lupus, their family members, caregivers, and loved ones can share their experiences, methods of coping, and insights into living with lupus.

LFA support groups help develop the best coping strategies to reduce stress that often accompanies living with a chronic illness.

December Support Group Schedule

It's almost time! LFA, IN Chapter begins our first monthly online support group in early 2017.

You asked for an online support group, and we're delivering. We launch the new support group early in 2017. Watch for more announcements via email or check our Facebook page, Instagram, or website for more details.

Classes are limited to 20 participants for now. Up to 10 webcams can be used at one time. If you don't have computer access, there will be a dial-in phone number to participate.

We're using Onstream media as our platform, and your two new facilitators, Brandi and Mike Fabel are excited to be a part of this support group expansion.

With the chronic pain and other health issues that many rheumatology patients face every day, it’s natural for rheumatologists and their patients to wonder if cannabinoid treatments are of any help. At this point, there is insufficient evidence to recommend cannabinoid treatments to manage rheumatic diseases, according to a review article published in the May issue of Arthritis Care & Research.1

"Lead author Mary-Ann Fitzcharles, MBChB, a rheumatologist at McGill University Health Centre, Montreal, Quebec, and colleagues used Medline, Embase and CENTRAL database searches to pinpoint studies that focused on cannabinoid use for pain, sleep, quality of life, tolerability and safety."

Winter Fundraising.jpg

If the winter blues get you down, get the lift you need by planning your own fundraising event.

Plan a tail-gate friendly Superbowl Party, asking folks who attend for a donation to join the fun.

Hold a Valentine's Day raffle, getting a few tidbits together (a romantic dinner for two somewhere, two tickets to a romantic movie, or even a romantic gift basket), and sell tickets at church or at the office.

When lupus gives you lemons, set up a virtual lemonade stand --you never even have to leave the house to raise money for LFA, IN Chapter.

Event planning is hard work and we couldn't do it without the help of our amazing, and generous volunteers. Please lend us your time and talents by serving on one of these three committees!

Answer

Try to find some form of exercise that you can stick with during the winter months, as regular exercise will often help with fatigue. If you can do some of this outside, the fresh air could be invigorating and will prevent feelings of “cabin fever,” or being stuck indoors. Also, try to promote your own positive outlook by focusing on the good things in your life. A gratitude practice can help with this—take a minute each morning or evening to write down three things you are grateful for. Cultivate laughter by reading or watching something funny on a regular basis, or spending time with people that make you laugh. Read more on winter wellness
